Independence Day Scarf

I saw this Independence Day Scarf pattern on the Lion Brand Web site.  I thought it might be nice as it was a small light weight scarf for summer.

I went to Hobby Lobby to buy yarn; only to discover they do not carry Vanna’s Choice Glamor.   So I selected a similar yarn.  Paton’s Lace Sequin in crystal.  This may be a better choice as even when working in the gage of that pattern, I still need more yarn then what is called for.   This seems to be the trend with any Lion Brand patterns.

Anyway in a few days I will post a picture.

scrubby dish cloth

I like red heart’s new scrubby yarn.

I used some cotton yarn that I had on hand and the scrubby yarn and made a scrubby dishcloth.

Here is the pattern:

I used a 5.0 mm H crochet hook

Small amount worsted weight cotton

Small amount of scrubby yarn

Row 1: With the cotton yarn FDC 20 Stitches

Row 2-10: DC in BLO of each stitch.  DO NOT FINISH OFF (20 stitches)

Row 11- 20: With scrubby yarn DC in each of the 20 stitches.  FO after row 20.

Fold dishcloth in half.  Pick up the cotton yarn and sc evenly on all three sides.  FO.

Scrubby

I love Turtles!

So when redheart.com had a free pattern for a turtle scrubby, I wanted to make it.  The only problem was that the yarn used was new and of course, no store around me carried the new yarn.

In the end I finally relented and ordered it from redheart.com.  I ordered 4 skeins as the pattern called for 4 different colors.

I really like this yarn!  It has a scrubby texture that goes well when you have to wash those pots and pans that won’t go in the dishwasher.
The down side is I have a lot of yarn left over.  I only used  ¼ skein of each color for the project.

So here is my turtle scrubby.  In the end I put the turtle scrubby on a small bottle of dish soap that I have in my kitchen.  I love it!

After I finished I had all this scrubby yarn left over.   I went to redheart.com and found another pattern.

So here is the Flower Bath Scrub.

If you enjoy making dishcloths or washcloths give this yarn a try.   I liked it!  I am currently working with cotton yarn and this scrubby yarn as a two sided dishcloth.

Sashay Shawl

When sashay yarn was first introduced, I made a scarf from it and said never again.   That was September of 2012.

A few months later I saw where someone made a shawl out of the sashay yarn.   I liked it and thought I would try and make one.   I purchased the pattern and after many failed attempts, I just set it aside.  I had problems figuring out how to turn the yarn.

Well about 6 months ago I picked it up again and again I did not care for the results I was achieving.  Then I happened on a YouTube Video by Mikey of The Crochet Crowd.    He explained how to work the shawl and it seem so easy to me.  I could not understand why I had not gotten it before.

Sometimes you just need to have someone show you how to do something.
Since then I have made 2 shawls.  Will I make more?  I don’t think so.    Mikey said his took about 4 hours to make.  Mine took 6 to 8.  But here they are….

Rainbow Runner Tote Bag

When I went on the Exotic Crochet Cruise I came home with about $200 worth of yarn.  There were 16 balls of various colors of sugar and cream cotton yarn.  I have been on a market bag frenzy.
So when I notice on http://www.mooglyblog.com/rainbow-runner-tote-bag/ was having a CAL (crochet along) for a rainbow market bag I was in.  I had most of the colors.  I used Ecru instead of white.  I needed some  blue and  red. I didn't have enough of the ecru to to the trim on the handle so I used blue.
I just finished the bag today.   I think it turned out well.

Crochet Travel Kit

So I am watching opening day baseball, Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds and there is a rain delay.  My Kindle is nearby so I begin to go through my e-mail.  I clicked on a link about craft projects and saw where someone made a travel kit out of a washcloth.  I thought I could crochet that.  The rest rain delay and game went by quickly.  So I present ….

The Crochet Travel Kit

1 skein worsted weight cotton yarn (I used some old Peaches n Cream that was in my stash.  I used the entire skein)

A small amount of contrasting yarn. I used some worsted weight white cotton yarn.

Size H 5.0 mm crochet hook.

Yarn needle

Ch 31
Row 1: turn  sc in 2nd ch on hook.  Dc in next stitch. * sc in next st dc in next st* repeat from** to end of row.  Ch 1 turn.
Row 2-30: sc in first dc, dc in first sc, *sc in dc, dc in sc* repeat  from ** to end of row .  fo after row 30.
With contrasting yarn ch 100.  Sl in each ch. FO.

When you are finished with the crochet washcloth, you are going to make it into a travel kit.  Mark 6 rows from the top of the washcloth.  Fold the bottom of the washcloth up to the row that you marked.  Sew or crochet the sides closed.
I wanted 4 pockets.  You can make as many or as few pockets as you want.  I just measured where I wanted the pockets and sewed the two sides of the dishcloth together.  I used up what little yarn I had left from the washcloth. This formed the pockets.  Fill the travel kit with your items.  Roll it up and secure with the tie you made with the contrasting yarn.

And there you have it.   Enjoy!   If you find any errors please let me know as I am not a professional crochet designer.

Nextbook Cover

A while back ago, I made my husband a cover for his nextbook.   It was a simple stitched into a pattern to make his cover.

Well today, he asked me to make a pocket for his reading glasses.  And here is the results.

I think it turned out pretty well considering I designed it my self.

Exotic Crochet Cruise 2015

On Saturday February 7, 2015 I attended the Exotic Crochet Cruise sponsored by The Crochet Crowd and Yarnsprinations.

We were on the Carnival Glory.  I was not impressed with the ship at all.  I have been on older Carnival cruise ships, (Sensation, Fascination, and Ecstasy) but this one seemed small and cramped.  I felt like a sardine the first night at dinner, so we never went back to the dinning room.

We went to the Bahamas, Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas, USVI.  Only problem was ports of call were all done in the first 4 days of the cruise without a sea day.  The sea days were the last two days. So the classes were after the early dinner.

Mikey, Dan, and Colleen were the best hosts for this cruise.

We meet for orientation in the afternoon of embarkation day.  Sadly, I missed this.  Lesson one, read the agenda and note any changes in meeting times.

Our first official meeting was after dinner that first evening.  Crocheters are well known for their charity work.  Each person was asked to voluntarily bring 9 granny squares that were crochet together.   The blocks were then sewn together and made into blankets.  These blankets were donated to Project Linus.  We were also given a tote bag filled with yarn for the week.

After dinner the second evening, we used some glam stripes to make a shawl.  There were two patterns to select from.  This was because there was another cruise the following week. Mikey reviewed the instructions for one of the shawls as the crocheters followed along.

Dela Wilkins, also attended the cruise and taught the next wo classes in Tunisian crochet.  She taught several different Tunisian stitches.   I only thought there was one stitch!  She also taught a class in double ended Tunisian crochet.  I enjoyed this!

Mikey also did a class for a market bag.  We had 8 skeins of Sugar N Cream in one color.  Mikey told everyone to trade colors.  In the end you ended up with 8 different colors for a striped bag.  We were told this when we were given our bags.  This got us to interact with each other.

Mikey also taught us how to do cable stitches and the star stitch,

I learned new stitches and much more.  If I was given the opportunity to attend next year I would as long as it was on a different cruise line.
